Genymotion Device image (PaaS)

Improvements

  • OS images update: Official ARM64 OS images have been updated to version 3.4.1
    • Android 12.0, 12.1, 13.0, 14.0 and 15.0 (released on 2025/05/28)
    • Android 9.0, 10.0 and 11.0 (released on 2025/07/22)
    • Android 7.0 and 8.0 (coming soon ⌛)
  • Persistent settings: GPS location, battery level and status, and disk I/O settings are now persistently saved across sessions.

Bug fixes

  • Keystore boot error: Resolved a booting error that occurred when the keystore.ks file was corrupted.
  • Certificate generation: Fixed an error encountered during the certificate generation process.
  • Wi-Fi proxy settings: Fixed an issue affecting persistent Wi-Fi proxy configurations.
  • Device name display: Fixed a bug where the device name would sometimes display as “unknown” in settings.

Fixed:

  • Resolved an issue where adbconnect command failed on Windows due to a missing OpenSSL dependency.

Changed:

  • Dropped support for Linux distributions using glibc versions earlier than 2.31.
  • Dropped support for 32-bit Windows.

Fixed:

  • Enhanced the reliability of ADB Tunnel, specifically when used on congested networks.

  • Resolved issue where .apk files were not correctly installed.

New features

  • Android 15: Genymotion Desktop now supports Android 15. Enjoy improved quick start functionality and no more lockscreen interruptions between sessions.
  • Cloud instances: A new tab on the main page lists your Genymotion SaaS instances. Future updates will bring seamless integration of cloud devices within Genymotion Desktop.
  • Storage management: Easily manage disk space used by Genymotion in the settings. Access detailed information and tools for cache and virtual device storage management.

Changes

  • UI improvements: The user interface has been refreshed with a new sidebar, footer, and subtle enhancements to the main page.
  • Simplified filters: Filters have been streamlined to better match common usage. The UI has been cleaned up; the search bar and sorting options are now the main tools to find your virtual devices.
  • Notifications: The notification panel has been improved to display more information and be more user-friendly.
  • Update management: Information about the latest version of Genymotion Desktop is now displayed in the settings. You can now easily check if you are up to date and download the latest version.
  • Troubleshooting page: “About” information and various troubleshooting tools and links have been consolidated in a new page for easier access.
  • Linux installer: The Linux binary installer extension has been changed from “.bin” to “.run” for better consistency with the Linux ecosystem.

Fixes & Improvements

  • Compatibility issue with QEMU on Apple Silicon M4: Fixed an issue where devices would not start on Apple Silicon M4.
  • Windows: Fixed license activation issue on some Windows hosts with high security settings.

Known issues

  • Camera: The camera may not work correctly after a device is resumed from a snapshot (quick boot). A cold boot may be required. a blank screen (when this happens, mirroring is unavailable, but other features still work).
  • Quick boot: quick boot issue when foreground app is a Gecko-based app.
  • Android 15: on Windows hosts, Android 15 may be slow and unresponsive on some hardware, we’re working on it.
  • VirtualBox: Android 15 is not functioning properly with VirtualBox hypervisor.

New features

  • Android 15 ARM64 (beta) OS Image: A beta version of the Android 15 ARM64 OS image is now available.
  • New official recipe: The “Xiaomi 15” recipe has been added, featuring the Android 15 OS image.
  • Image version update: Images for Android 12, 12.1, 13, and 14 have been updated to version 3.3.1

Improvements

  • Alternative webviews: You can now install alternative WebView packages on virtual devices.
  • Image injection: Injected images now maintain their aspect ratio and original orientation.
  • IMEI configuration: The IMEI is now properly set according to the widget configuration or the persist.gsm.imei property.

Bug fixes

  • Device name matching: The running device name now correctly matches the OS image name.
  • Home button: The home button on virtual devices works as expected.
  • Camera errors: Resolved camera errors encountered in Instagram and other third-party apps.

Genymotion Desktop for personal use is not suitable for trial or POC: you will not get any assistance and some features will be disabled. If you have already selected “personal use” and wish to get a trial license, please contact our Sales at [email protected].

Technical support is not available with Genymotion Desktop free edition for personal use. For more details, please refer to Genymotion conditions of use (Personal Use).

Follow these steps to get Genymotion Desktop and activate personal use mode:

  1. Go to the Download page and get the latest version for your system.
  2. Follow the instructions from Genymotion Desktop quickstart guide to install Genymotion Desktop.
  3. Launch Genymotion and click CREATE to create an account. You should receive an activation email within an hour. If not, make sure to check your spam.
  4. After activating your account, return to Genymotion and log in with your credentials.
  5. Select personal use when prompted.
  6. Read Genymotion Desktop quickstart guide carefully to setup Genymotion for your needs.
